“Gov. Deval Patrick is proposing a sizable 4.9 percent budget increase that would raise spending to $36.4 billion, but critics charge not enough of it is going toward aid for cities and towns. . . State Sen. Richard Ross, R-Wrentham, also took note of the lack of increase in local aid. ‘Additionally, following an increase in unrestricted local aid funding last year, that funding level was also merely maintained this year,’ he said. ‘I would have liked to see that progress continued, by providing our municipalities with the support they need to function efficiently in this economy.'”
