Safety of Public Water Supplies

Many municipalities in my district and across the Commonwealth do not have public water supplies. Therefore, residents must rely on private wells that are expensive to dig and to maintain. Private wells are also susceptible to contamination however they are not subject to the same testing and monitoring requirements by the Department of Environmental Protection as public water sources. I filed S.748 to resolve this health and safety concern. It requires mandated periodic testing of the private water resources servicing a new housing development.  It would allow municipalities to create conditions for safe and accessible water to housing developments. If the conditions are not met, the bill contains penalties for not doing so. My hope is for these precautions ensure the safety of drinking water for all residents. Click here to read about S.748.
